Defending Jacob

Network Apple TV

I found Defending Jacob to be a polished and emotionally heavy crime drama that effectively shifts the focus from a standard courtroom procedural to the psychological unraveling of a family. The story follows an assistant district attorney whose teenage son is accused of murdering a classmate, forcing him and his wife into a defensive posture that gradually tests their own perceptions of truth and loyalty. I was particularly impressed by the moody, blue-tinted cinematography and the deliberate pacing, which captures the feeling of a world slowly closing in on the protagonists.

The performances are the clear highlight here, with the leads doing a fantastic job of portraying the exhaustion and paranoia that come with being social pariahs. While the show occasionally feels a bit overstretched across its eight-episode format, it succeeds in maintaining a sense of ambiguity that kept me questioning the central character's innocence until the very end. It is a smart, atmospheric series that prioritizes the internal toll of a criminal investigation over flashy legal maneuvers. For those who enjoy character-driven mysteries that dive into the darker corners of suburban life, this is a very worthwhile watch.
